Maritimes and Newfoundland

Ken and I head to the Maritimes in July. Our friends will be getting married in Moncton and we've been wanting to take a trip there anyway so it's a great opportunity to combine the two. We'll obviously be going around New Brunswick and doing Cape Breton, plus Nova Scotia and PEI is right there too. But the more I hear about Newfoundland, the more I want to spend the extra time and do that too. Here are some of the things on my list that I'd like to see and do:

New Brunswick:
Shediac
Fundy National Park - world's highest tides

Nova Scotia:
Halifax!!
Cabot Trail

Prince Edward Island:
Charlottetown
Bike trails and farmer's markets
Sand dunes at Greenwich National Park

Newfoundland:
L'anse aux Meadows - vikings! My peeps
Gros Morne National Park
St. Pierre - Ken and I would both get a huge kick out of spending the day in France
Witless Bay - seeing some puffins. PUFFINS, people.

And a bonus to today's post: here are things I am not supposed to admit out loud, ignorances about the east coast of Canada:
  • Newfoundland isn't part of the Maritimes! I had no idea.
  • I still can hardly place each of maritime provinces precisely on a map but hopefully by the time I leave I will.
  • I thought Cape Breton was part of New Brunswick, not Nova Scotia. Seriously. That's embarassing.
