The Sounds of my Childhood

I meant to sit down and write about the weekend - a wonderful, full weekend wherein I surprised Ken for his 30th birthday. But instead, as I was driving home from french class tonight, I heard the theme song to CBC Radio's As It Happens. All of a sudden I was a kid again, listening to my parent's radio programs. I don't remember one single show or topic, or any news they may have listened to. But the theme song is so ingrained in my memory after years and years of hearing it, it's a part of me. The only comparable thing in my life is the entire Nana Mouskouri Christmas album. I don't know if I loved it as a child, I just remember hearing it. Then as a teenager I of course rebelled against it and didn't want to hear it. Then one day during university, I was walking through A&B Sound in downtown Victoria before the holidays. The Nana Mouskouri album was playing in the store and I almost started crying. It was an overload of nostalgia, in the most wonderful way. It was an instant appreciation and love for my childhood. As it Happens and Nana Mouskouri. I wonder what it is for other people?
